Benefaction

Birla family is known far and wide for their philanthropic works. Besides proving their mettle in numerous fields, they have established new milestones in edification. Education to them had been nothing less than an altruistic endeavour which aimed at lifting the standard of education in India while she was still blooming its education sprout at the dawn of its independence. Nevertheless, these stalwarts had started this mission in the early 1900 under the guidance of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya. They supported educational charities in Kolkata and in Mumbai. In 1901, the family established the first high school in Pilani.

The legendary industrialist-philanthropist Syt. G. D. Birla had envisioned the making of an institution which would one day develop into a permanent Centre of light and learning in India. To transform this vision into reality, he established Birla Education Trust on 23rd January 1929 and constantly nurtured this institution under his dynamic leadership and far-sighted vision virtually transmuting Pilani into a World-renowned Centre of excellence in the field of education.

Birla school, Pilani functions under the aegis of the Birla Education Trust. The school was initiated in 1901 when Seth Shiv Narayan Birla started a tiny village Pathshala for the education of his grandsons, Shri Ghanshyam Das Birla and Shri Rameshwar Das Birla along with 30 other village children in Pilani. The Pathshala since then has accomplished a long journey of achievements and it is now standing tall as prestigious Birla school, Pilani. It is thriving on the 120 years old rock-solid legacy of glorious traditions with a blend of modern education.
